Just when you thought our work here was done, I found a lost roll of film under my bed from Palm Springs.
I had a pulled pork sandwich at the Ace Hotel that day, we took some photobooth pics and as it started to rain, Michael and I ducked into the Moorten Botanical Garden, a homespun 1 acre plot jampacked with 3000 desert plants. The day was finished off by a banana date milkshake and the long drive home to LA. I think the catci should be flowering soon, and I'd really love to go back to see it.
i have never seen so many cacti! were you not afraid you'd get poked? :-P

ReplyDeleteAmy,
ReplyDeleteWhich camera do you use for your blog photos? I'm completely new to photography and looking to learn beyond my point-n-shoot. Any info you have on photography resources/how-to's would be appreciated. Thank you for creating such a lovely, authentic space to visit.
The photos in this post are with a little point and shoot 35mm film camera, and my digital ones are with a canon 5d. I'd recommend looking into the canon rebel series for a starter dslr- they are a really solid!
DeleteThe variety is so exciting!! I would want to (wearing gloves!) put them on my copier and scan them all:)
ReplyDeleteThese photo's are great! I really have to start using my film camera's I'm naughty and get lazy because digital is just so easy! Would love to see some photo's of them flowering!

Lovely!
ReplyDeleteI am fascinated by cactus, we have a few places in London with an amazing collection of this plats, at the Barbican center and at Kew gardens, but the real gems are back home in Gran Canaria. I love drawing them and are going to base one of my new collections on cactus, gorgeous photos by the way.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos, but I hate to tell the folks in Palm Springs, they do NOT have the first ever Cactarium! My local nursery here on Long Island has a set of enormous greenhouses - FULL OF CACTUS! They are all intertwined and growing into and around and between each other - this collection is very, very old. I'll have to get over there when the temperature ever decides to get above 50 degrees and take some photos of it.
ReplyDeleteI've never even heard of cactarium! It looks like a beautiful place and--despite the prickly neighbors--a wonderful retreat from the world when things get crazy. I really hope that your car troubles are sorted out. You're right--just breathe.
