I can say with 100% certainty that a thing exists called post-vacation stress disorder. I wish there wasn't, that it's possible to just waltz back into reality glowing and inspired. My first morning home, I woke up acutely aware of the expanse of life ahead of me that didn't include pina coladas made with fresh coconut milk. Some problems are harder to acknowledge than others.
No problems, however, are hard enough that a good vacation can't soften their blow.

We vacationed in the truest sense. We swam in Tulum, explored in Coba, sweated in Uxmal and swore in Merida. (It was a family vacation after all.) But we made it out in one piece- tanned, freckled, pink or otherwise. It's been a month since we've been back and I haven't recovered yet. Recovery is resignation and I'm going to stretch this withdrawal for as long as I can.
Lovely photographs. It looks like an amazing vacation. Enjoy the afterfun!
ReplyDeleteThat bikini is so cute :-)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean...you need a vacation AFTER the vacation...Reality bites (sometimes)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing...the pictures, as always, are beautiful!
Hugs.

They have a term for that in Japanese - it's called gogatsu-byo, which means "May syndrome," because of the week of national holidays that start the month.
ReplyDeleteFrom your pictures, it looks like you're in for a serious case.
I'm glad not to be the only one who suffers from this. I'm still having nightmares from the most wonderful London vacation with my oldest son ...over a year ago! Beautiful pictures!...k
ReplyDeleteWonderful vacation and your pictures show it.
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous pictures, and I love the story about your mom and the hotel. Post-vacation entry into real life can be difficult, but it is better to have vacationed and come home than to have never vacationed at all!
ReplyDeleteI love your photographs here! The man dancing in a hallway brings a smile. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful vacation pictures with your mom and family! I agree that vacations are over too soon! Then back to reality again. But at least you will have your wonderful travel memories forever! Those memories you will take with you till the end. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures! Love your bikini too!
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh - that bikini is to die for! happen to know where it's from? love the photos. xxx
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of a great vacation! Thanks for sharing them and the story of your Mom's original hotel adventures.
ReplyDeleteTotally with you on the PVSD! Hate when that glow-y happy bubble bursts. Getting ready for work the first day after vacation usually requires me to allot an extra half-an-hour for the difficulty of choosing what to wear. What, a pareo is inappropriate? Then I don't want to go. Sigh.
I am VERY intimate with PVSD! The only way to beat it is to plan another trip. LOVE your bikini!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful photos - I can see why you're having withdrawal!
ReplyDeletelove the photos, so original
ReplyDeleteWOW what stunning photos! I think I'm going to have to add that to my places to visit.
ReplyDeleteYou do have a way with words!!!!!!!!! Fab post.
ReplyDeletegorgeous. i need to vacation in a true sense asap. why am i not on vacation? it's a hard life...
ReplyDeleteThanks guys, this is my bathing suit. http://www.bonadrag.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=996
ReplyDeleteyour pictures make we want to get myself on a plane and go to mexico. cud-dos for the loss of genuine pina coladas. i feel you.
ReplyDeletei'm still pining for paris from my trip almost two years ago, and still having free-museum and pain-au-chocolat withdrawals. mostly because i didn't go anywhere last year. hoping for a trip to new york later this year to keep me going until we can make it to paris again. i think that picture of your flower & bikini should be blown up and put over your bed, or painted as a huge Gauguin-like painting. it's so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sheila! I was worried it was a bit boob shot-y. Glad you like it.
DeleteI love your blog, and your work. My name is Merida and I was named after the city in Mexico - such a beautiful place. Thanks for being a visionary inspiration!
Deletethe man dancing in the hallway just gave me the biggest laugh I've had all day! Wonderful shot! Glad you had a lovely time.
ReplyDeleteI have been here! Truely amazing place!
ReplyDeletelove the shot of your dad clicking his heels! very joyous!
ReplyDeleteI have PVSD just from your pictures. I can only imagine that you, having lived it, are knocked flat, with good reason. It was so glorious.
ReplyDeletegorgeous & looks like so much fun too!!
ReplyDeletei will take one of all of those cocktails you have pictured.
ReplyDeleteLove the photos and I so know your feeling of coming to terms with reality after vacation. Keep the memories fresh and nearby! Love the photo of the girl in the top with the salmon colored flowers...

What great pictures ... talking about vacations .. and I lack a holiday ...
ReplyDeleteGreat pix, and I'm with you on needing a second, at-home holiday to recover from actual traveling vacations. It's not that you don't have a good time, it's that stress affects your body the exact same way, no matter if it's good stress or bad stress. Definitely good to leave yourself at least a day or two on the tail end to get your mojo back before hitting the real world again.
ReplyDeleteGreat posts! Your photos and words make me happy... Viva Romanticos!
ReplyDeleteWONDERFUL Post.thanks for share..

Edit: that should read: I loved the story about your mother's adventures.

ALSO, the BATHING SUIT killed it.
