Micha's 30th

My big sister had a 30th birthday a few weeks back and we rented a cabin in West Virginia to celebrate. We soaked in some ancient mineral springs and got massages, too, which is very fancy for us. (Ignoring the fact that Micha is a trained massage therapist and gives much better massages than the ones we paid for.)

Eager for fall, we made a fire when perhaps we shouldn't have. August 14th is no time for fires in fireplaces in West Virginia. I don't know what came over me, because that same weekend I prematurely bought an antique Christmas tree stand. In August. The shame of it all left me unwilling to remove it from my car and face the fact that I have no room in the inn for off season christmas purchases.

I'm finally ready for fall. More fires (just not at elmwood seeing as i've ruined it for everyone.) More hot coco. Less weddings. More free time. More blogging. More of everything that makes me happy.

  5. I am ashamed to say that it has been nearly a month since I have checked in with you. Obviously, my priorities have been horribly out of wack, and I promptly caught up on every single post you have composed while I was gone. I love the pictures you have been posting of YOU and your adorable family. Your love for each other, for nature, and for life shines through in each and every photograph and inspires me with a love for the same. Please keep it up!
And, of course, happy birthday Micha! How do you pronounce her name? It looks quite lovely!

  7. I hope the things you love include a homemade crab cake in Annapolis!!! PLEASE PLEASE!!!!
Come when the time is right for you.

Ahhh....The rustic little cabin in the woods. That fireplace photo makes me feel like I'm back basking in it's rosy light with my beloved family.

Though i must add, as much as i love fireplaces and Fall... being back into school is like being a bonsai. All my summer growth clipped into unnatural shapes... to fit someone's idea of what life should look like.

Thankfully...Your photos remind me of what life really IS about. When i forget... I'll come back to your blog!

  8. Jut happened here + this is the best blog. As an ol' WV girl, I can tell you that a fire in the fireplace in August is unusual, but not without its merits. That fireplace in your cabin was begging for attention. Love the photos - they're storytellers all their own. Sad to see summer's end, myself, it's been such a quick, happy one - wish it could go on a little longer.

  9. Love the pictures of the fire! I can not wait when I let the dog out side in the morning and I get get hit in the face with a blast of cool air. Summer in the city is almost as brutal as summer in the south.
Looking forward to seeing more posts, love the blog!

  11. Hey, I think I've stayed in those WV cabins! Are they near the New River Gorge? West Virginia is SO wooded, it's amazing (and kind of scary to drive through alone). Lovely pictures!

  14. Could any sane person have resisted stoking up a fire in that great fireplace? I think not.

Happy belated to your no-way-is-she-really-30 sis!

  18. That looks like a lovely cabin. I can see the temptation of wanting to light a fire, even in August. Speaking of springs in WV, I like Berkeley Springs, nice little town. I went there once again on the first weekend in May and it was fun, but hot. Lower 90's! Felt like August in Spring.
