Handprint

The main problem with sticking one's hand in frozen wet cement is that your hand will be covered in frozen wet cement.

This I learned the hard way outside the shop. And in retrospect, I'm a bit too easy to track down, even without cement smudged all over me.

  1. Smoothing cement over dirt is very difficult... It must be hell doing it in cold weather.
    I can't say I wasn't a little disappointed when I saw this.

  3. I love this because (1) your hand print is so unique and cool, (2) at first glance I thought it was the print of someone making a peace sign when they placed their hand in the cement.

  5. Love it! It's going to be awesome to see that through the years a little reminder of where you were when. You should try scratching the date into it. :-)

  6. When I was little, they paved our street and put in a curb and while the concrete was wet, my sister, all the neighborhood kids, and I wrote our names in the cirb. My mom found out and made me rub mine out. Even though mine isn't on there, I still like seeing all the neighborhood kids' names.

  7. there's something about Wet Cement that just is irresistable...I find I am compelled to stick in my finger or toe at the very least. But I don't think I've ever encountered any Frozen Wet Cement. I don't know what I would do then, because my fingers have had bad experiences with frostbite and would be less willing to be compelled into the Cement.

  8. We had our front walk paved. While everyone else who had theirs done etched handprints and/or names in a corner somewhere, my husband didn't like the idea. So we respected that. Now that the kids are older he wishes he had agreed to doing it. I love walking along sidewalks and seeing what people put in the concrete.

  12. When I etched "funkadelic lovin'" and a peace sign outside of my mom's house when I was 16, I had noooo idea it would still be there when I was 26. Irrevocable proof of my charming teen dorkiness :).

  17. Actually, the shape of the handprint you leave is the ASL (American Sign Language) sign for "love".

    Did you know that?

Every deaf person who sees your handprint will.
