Time warp

Good news! My mom is doing well and in good spirits. We've spent the past day giggling till she groans with pain, at which point we start giggling again. I'm typing this out at an honest to goodness machine of antiquated technology, a dell desktop circa 2000. Yes, it has some old timey AOL dial up internet.

While my mom napped this afternoon, I stole my dad's car to run to the antique store, the windows were down, the radio station was playing Sublime and wow, it could have been 1998 for all I knew. GTG, dinner time. TTYL, LYLAS!

I've come full circle, people, full circle.

  11. How nice to know someone else has an old Dell, unfortunately, mine has just died and I really miss it. We had AOL dial up on it as well and I met my american pen friend through AOL chat rooms though is was like being in the twilight zone using it. Glad your Mom is doing o.k

  14. I feel like everything about this summer has been very 10 years ago. At least music-wise. No Doubt is touring and the Dave Matthews Band and Pearl Jam are headlining festivals. And I'm living in the DFW area, which I also haven't done full-time in 10 years. May as well be back in high school.

I was also a big fan of TTFN.

  16. Just found your blog and I like it very much. I especially like the pictures.

I just started mine today and, while I can write well enough, the mechanics of a computer remain a mystery. I would like to put some of my photos on my site, but I still don't know how to do so. When a friend Who Is Competent can come over to show me (do you read me, Mary?) you can see my pix as well.

    Keep up the good work!

  19. True story. I just stumbled onto your blog and love it.

If I didn't have such an old computer (Yikes, it's a Dell from '04!), or at least one that could hold a connection longer than about 8 seconds, I'd totally be a follower.

I think I'll try again. And best wishes for a speedy recovery to mom. Moms are the very best thing in the whole world. Well, moms and creme brulee.

  22. Too funny! my grandparents and parents still had aol dial-up until this year (they live out in the country)when they got a usb modem. It's so much faster, it's like a dream!

  26. Hey Amy,

I'm sorry to hear about your mothers accident but am glad to hear she's on the mend and with you there I'm sure she'll have a speedy recovery.

While you're home, if you're still there may I be so brazen as to make a blog post request? As per our past discussions I'm fascinated with your parents hobby of raising doves, an artform in itself, I'd love to see what you could shoot/write about it. If you're too busy I understand but I'd love to see/hear more about this topic.

Aside from that I hope all is well and I congratulate you on all your recent success!

    xoxo
    Peter

  27. Haha, i wouldn't exactly say Sublime is the best.

Pete, i'm already home! I'm sorry, no dove posts. I'm actually a little scared of the dovecote, blame it on hitchcock!

  30. Amy's mom here, popping into her blog to say THANK YOU for all your well wishes. I definitely felt love from near and far!

Being with Amy was far more effective pain management than the doctor's measly med's. How am I so fortunate to have her for a friend and a daughter?!

I'm still sore but smiling from her gentle and kind care. I'm buttoned, hair brushed, massaged, zucchini muffined and thoroughly loved!

While it may be 2 months to a year before I"ll be able to drive again...I'm so completely grateful to be alive.

Savor this precious gift of your life and the lives of those you love!
