Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury

Today Brooklyn has given me a big old lump of belated coal for christmas.

Anyone know where a girl can get a gavel in a hurry? Maybe a £500 barrister wig? The summons said to "dress with respect for the seriousness of the proceedings". Let the deliberations begin.

  2. Ah, stinking democracy in all its glory. I was out of there after half a day of sitting around last Feb. One loud South Brooklyn dame honking a lot, but otherwise just butt-tiring. Take a book.

  3. This is bad, very bad indeed. I'm becoming a U.S. citizen in a few weeks, and have this sinking feeling they are going to hit me up as soon as it's done.

On how to dress, it depends on whether you want to be selected or not. If yes, go for something serious and sober. If no, go for something that convinces them you are a bit loopy.

  4. I saw a gavel in one of my favourite antique stores the other day and was so tempted to buy it. Maybe I should, just in case I get summoned for duty too. :)

  5. Ahhh..there is not justice for the jury.
When they do jury selection, just tell " Im not prejudice , I hate everyone". It has worked well for me in the past.

  6. I had to do this when I lived in Brooklyn. Totally sucked. Bring lots of reading material.

  7. Amy--
I think you should try doing your civic duty with pride. While you are there, talk to others. Find out where they work, shop, what they believe in. The jury duty pool is the one time that you are mixed in with people of all walks of life. You will learn a lot. Don't just take a book, take a stack of photos in case you find a kindred spirit.

If you are ever the victim of a serious crime, you will want a good jury. America needs you. Embrace it!
